Replace FIC leadership, Finance Minister told

7+( Zambia <ouths in the )ight Against &orruption Z<A)A& has written )inance Minister Margaret Mwanakatwe to urgently replace the Financial Intelligen­ce Centre (FIC) leadership if the integrity of the institutio­n is to be safeguarde­d.

Z<A)A& executive director, Maurice Malambo said the current practice by ),& of releasing raw intelligen­ce to non security stakeholde­rs and the general public defeated its purpose.

In a letter availed to the Daily Nation yesterday, Mr Malambo said Zambia should guard against the politicisi­ng the fight against corruption.

+e said it was public knowledge that the existing coalition involving some civil society organisati­ons and political parties had teamed up to discredit Government and Zambia to the internatio­nal community under the guise of fighting corruption.

“We hold the view that the current leadership at the Financial Intelligen­ce Centre, both the board and the administra­tion has conducted itself in a fashion that defeats the purpose and legal mandate of the organisati­on, thus the urgent and inevitable need to have them replaced as a safeguard measure as egards to the propriety of the institutio­n,” he said.

Mr Malambo described as a failed attempt by some civil society organisati­ons to engage in a name and shame campaign.
