We support host communities - UNHCR

- By NATION REPORTER

OUR support in refugee settlements does not only target refugees but host communities as well, United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), Solwezi Field officer Jean Don Bosco has said

He made the remarks yesterday after handing over 60 desktop computers and 60 desks at Maheba secondary school in Kalumbila district of North Western Province.

Mr Bosco said UNHCR has been very grateful to the Zambian government for hosting refugees hence the donation to the school.

He said the donation was a way of showing appreciation to the government and the people of Kalumbila for what they have been doing for the refugees.

"It is our hope that the presented equipment will be guarded jealously and be put to good use and improve the learning standards of pupils," he said.

And receiving the equipment on behalf of the school, Kalumbila District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Mubanga Mutinta said Government will forever be grateful to UNHCR for the support they have been rendering to refugees and host communities.

She said the equipment will go a long way in easing some of the challenges faced at the school and also improve learning standards.

She urged the school management to take good care of the equipment so that they benefit the pupils.
