SIAVONGA DC WARNS MP
… threatens to shut down constituency office
tensions are rising in Siavon ga with the District Commissioner threatening to shut down the offices of area MemEer of 3arliament 'arius Mulunda if he continues shunning gove rnment functions and programmes.
SIAVONGA District Commissioner Lovemore Kanyama yesterday warned that should area UPND Member of Parliament Darius Mulunda continue to shun government functions and programmes, he will order the police to shut down his constituency offices.
Mr Kanyama said Mr Mulunda operated from the local National Assembly constituency office which was government property, therefore, it was disrespectful for the opposition law maker to shun state functions in the district, adding that he would be forced to lockup the parliament if the status Tuo continued.
‘’To this effect Siavonga Member of Parliament is being directed to start attending government programmes in Siavonga or else he will not be allowed to enter the Siavonga 1ational $ssembly office. ,f he stays away from the next government function in the district, then action will be taken against him. He has to take this warning seriously,” Mr .anyama said.
He also said as long as Siavonga Member of Parliament continued to shun government functions in the district, he would not be allowed access to government departments in the district.
‘’I have instructed all heads of government departments not to give audience or rather information to Siavonga Member of Parliament Mr 'arius Mulunda. 7he Member of Parliament is blank, he doesn’t even know the position of the hunger that has been reported in some parts of the district,¶¶ he said.
But Mr Mulunda advised Mr Kanyama to stop what he called ‘’fueling animosity’’ in the district and instead concentrate on dealing with problems facing the people in the area.
He described Mr Kanyama’s warning as ‘’careless’’ allegedly meant to divert people’s attention from real issues such as the looming hunger and high unemployment levels among the youths.
He charged that Mr Kanyama should stop misleading the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) on the hunger situation caused by poor rainfall experienced in the previous season and the ‘’chaotic’’ implementation of e-Youcher system.
