Solwezi Council, Kansanshi ink K6.6 m MoU

SOLWEZI Municipal Council will soon commence road works worth K6,632,794 financed by Kansanshi Mining Plc through a debt swap.

This follows the signing of the memorandum of understand­ing (MoU) between the two institutio­ns on June 11.

The council’s assistant public relations manager Ms Esther Chirwa confirmed the developmen­t in a statement made available to the Daily Nation.

Ms Chirwa said the works are expected to commence on the July 1 and the MoU will run up to December this year.

‘’Yes, the local authority has signed a memorandum of understand­ing with Kansanshi Mine in which the mining company will carry out road works on selected roads in the district,’’ Ms Chirwa said.

She disclosed that among the roads to be worked on are the college road covering a distance of about 1.8 kilometres, FRA Rodwell Mwepu road 2.5 kilometres and Kimasala clinic road covering a total distance of 1.5 kilometres among others.

‘‘The other roads include the Urban Kizhingezh­inge road which is 2.5 kilometres, Floriana hospital 1.8, Mitec Kimale and the Royal Hotel Crossroads roads,’’ she added.

She also said the council has started working on other selected roads which are not on the list roads to be worked on by Kansanshi Mine.

She said so far, a stretch of about 1.5 kilometres of township roads have been graded.
