GANG TERRORISES KABWATA RESIDENTS

-

BY NATION REPORTER. SOME residents of Lusaka’s Kabwata Township are living in fear after a man was attacked by a youth gang called fluffies.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, Martha Phiri, a Kabwata resident said that her brother was attacked at 04:00 hours as he was going home after a drinking spree.

Ms Phiri narrated that her brother was badly beaten by boys who called themselves fluffies.

“Kabwata has been a safe place from the time I came here 10 years ago and nothing of this nature has ever happened. I am personally calling upon our area councillor to coordinate with the police so that they can find a lasting solution before it gets out of hand,” she said.

And in another interview with the Daily Nation, the victim, Henry Mwila, said when he was beaten he was told to follow what he was being told because they were fluffies and that had come to the area to stay.

“They told me to remove what I had in my pockets and give them, after giving them my phone and wallet they beat me till I fell to the ground unconscious,” he said.

Elias Kangwa a resident said that in the night he usually heard people shouting for help but people were scared to come out of their houses because they were scared of being hurt by the gangs.

“We can’t go out anyhow at night because we are living in fear in our area especially near the bars,” he said.

Area councillor Longa Chiboboka said his office had not yet received complaints from residents but that didn’t mean his office would not act on the matter. “As area ward councillor I will follow up and investigate, and the law shall catch up with the perpetrators,” he said. He said he would check with the Police if they had received such a report and investigate the matter and warned the youth gangs terrorising people in the area that he would flush them out. Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja last week pledged to launch a man hunt for gang members harassing Lusaka residents.
