NATIONAL Assembly Football Club has named former City of Lusaka coach George Kapemba as head coach after firing coach Osward Mutapa.

Club publicity secretary Jairous Siame confirmed the development in an interview with Daily Nation sports in Lusaka.

Siame noted that the super league outfit did not want to renew Mutapa’s contract which expired during the mid-season break.

“The National Assembly Football club separated with coach Osward Mutapa on mutual consent. His contract had expired and was not renewed. The club wishes to inform the football fraternity and the general public that it has appointed George Kapembwa as the new head coach with immediate effect following the departure of Mutapa.

“Kapembwa will be assisted by Gibson Chimbalanga and Autinel Changwe who resume their roles as goalkeeper and assistant coaches respective,” Siame said.

Meanwhile, the club has challenged the new coach to help the team move to a respectable position on the MTN/FAZ league table.

Siame said the club believed in coach Kapembwa who had massive experience in coaching at super league level.

“The immediate target is for the new coach to take the team to a comfortable position on the league table because if you look at where the team is, it is not very far from the relegation zone so our main target is to move away from danger,” Siame said.

Assembly are sixteenth on the league table with 17 points, four points above the relegation zone which now consist of Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy, Nchanga Rangers, Napsa Stars and New Monze Swallows.
