TAKE ADVANTAGE OF GOOD POLICIES, WOMEN URGED

-

By NATION REPORTER WOMEN should take advantage of Government’s policies aimed at promoting women to higher positions, says Livingstone Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Namakau Siyanga.

Ms Siyanga, who owns NaSi Construction Industry noted that women offer different perspectives and interests in the decision-making process, based on their unique experiences.

She said the SADC protocol regarding women’s position in society, leadership and politics, and at national level had been had seen the appointment women in various sectors of the economy.

She said in some instances, women were often overlooked due to under-representation in political and decision-making positions adding the situation was now different because of the protocol which, among other things, provided empowerment of women.

This she said would eliminate discrimination and achieve gender equality and equity through the development and implementation of gender responsive projects.

“Women should therefore take the advantage of that and ensure they engage in various empowerment projects that accelerate progress in the achievement of women’s empowerment,” she said.

Ms Siyanga said Government’s continued commitment to empowering women through policies and directives should be supported by all who mean well for the development of the country.
