Shot boy still in pain

…as Chinese offer help to family

- By NATION REPORTER

THE 16-year-old boy who was shot and wounded by a Chinese in Chambishi area says is feeling much better while the minining firm has apologised for the incident and pledged to help the family.

John Mumba, who has been moved to Sinozam Hospital from Kitwe Teaching Hospital (KTC), said unlike before, he was much better.

Mumba was shot and wounded at Bolo Mining premises by a Chinese who bolted and locked himself in the Chinese compound before unleashing dogs on police who pursued him in Chambishi area in Kalulushi

He said however that he was experiencing some chest pains when coughing and a painful shoulder.

"When I was just admitted after being shot, I was in pain, but I am now feeling much better and I may be discharged in the next three to four days,” Mumba said from his hospital bed.

But few minutes later, a woman who claimed to be the relative, entered the ward and started telling the boy not to tell people from the media that he was feeling much better.

The woman, who declined to identify herself, went further to grab the medical report from the Daily Nation Journalist and verbally assaulted him.

Earlier, Bolo Mining General Manager Shi Tony said he regretted the incident in which the boy was shot and wounded, claiming it was an accident and not intentional.

Mr Tony said the incident happened when a boy was mistaken to be one of the people who had been coming in the area to steal pipes from the dam.

Mr Tony said after the boy recovers, his company would meet with his relatives so that they could discuss how they could cushion the impact.

And when asked to comment, Mumba's mother 60-year-old Joyce Kampansa said she was waiting for her son to recover before she could sit down with the Chinese over the incident.
