Parents in classroom block SOS
By NATION REPORTER Parents in Kangwena area in Mushindamo have appealed to government and other wellwishers to help them complete a 1x3 classroom block.
Speaking on behalf of other parents during a public meeting at the school grounds over the weekend, Obed Ilunga said there was urgent need for the block which is under construction to be completed now that the school has been upgraded to secondary school level.
He said the school does not have enough classrooms hence the need to complete the unfinished building.
"Come next year, we are going to have Grade 12 here, now looking at the number of classrooms we have, they are not enough," he said.
He said from inception parents were told to make a contribution of about 10 percent towards the project of which they presented.
"The project is at slab level and we still have more building materials lying idle," he added.
"Because if we don't have a science laboratory the school will not be given examination centre status," he said.
And in response, acting Mushindamo District Commissioner Oscar Mugala said his office was working with the District Education Board Secretary’s office and will look into the matter.
He admitted that there was urgent need to complete the structure to increase on the classroom space.
