Court order

-

Dear Editor

THE advice by Zambia police spokesperson, Esther Katongo on the Namwala local authority to obtain a court order to have the illegal fence erected by UPND leader, Hakainde Hichilema’s workers on the communal grazing land, pulled down, is timely.

This advice is timely because the local authority could be sued by taking such an action.

In fact what the police want is for no one to complain once the court order is obtained so that the law is followed.

In fact, Mr Hichilema should not politicise this issue which affects over 600 villages which have since been left without grazing land for their animals after some headman gave the UPND leader over 1,500 hectares which has now been fenced off against government orders.

The affected land is not only used for animal grazing but is also where the locals collect their herbal medicines.

Stone-age politics should not rear its head over this issue and I ‘am aware that HH recently accused President Edgar Lungu of selling the land.

So the Namwala local authority should heed police advice so that we do not have crying babies over an issue that can be resolved amicably.

But a man like HH should just do the right thing and stop this. Why make so many poor people suffer. It is true one can never have enough money, but when one is a leader, they should think twice.
