UNIP to “instil fiscal discipline” at LCC - Banda

- By NATION REPORTER

HIGH levels of fiscal discipline in the use of Lusaka City Council (LCC) revenue in all aspects of council operations will be encouraged, says mayoral aspirant of the once mighty party the United National Indolence Party, (UNIP), Alfred Banda.

Reverend Banda claims once elected mayor of Lusaka he would stamp out corruption in the allocation of plots including partisan behaviour in the markets and bus stations.

He said access to clean as well as safe water and sanitation services especially in compounds was of concern adding that the opposition party would encourage the idea of water harvesting.

In a statement issued yesterday, Rev. Banda tabulated his vision and reaffirmed that UNIP was for continuity, steady progress and desired to work for all.

“We shall use the Public Private Partnerships modality to accelerate development projects and service delivery. There are more investors out there who are willing to partner with the local authority in the delivery of services,” he said.

He said more funds would be invested in tackling garbage by procuring more skip bins and garbage collection vehicles using a systematic method of collecting garbage on a regular basis from the primary sources in the Central Business District (CBD) area and townships to the dumpsites.

He pledged to pay more attention to the provision for more space and investment in health and educational facilities.

Rev. Banda said he would restore trust of residents in their civic leadership by popular interaction between the people and the Mayor by holding regular Town Hall and Township Meetings.
