Rugby players in their new national team jersey By SPORTS REPORTER
RUGBY has grown and has attracted sponsorship from many companies but Mopani Copper Mines will be the major kit dresser of the national team, Zambia Rugby Union (ZRU) president General Clement Sinkamba has said.
Gen. Sinkamba said the sport had gained top recognition in the country and beyond because of the local established league.
Gen Sinkamba said since 2015, the rugby union had been working with the mining company which had supported the sport in the country for many years.
Gen Sinkamba was speaking this in Mufulira when he received Jerseys for the national team from Mopani.
Gen Sinkamba commended Mopani Copper Mines for their unwavering support to the sport of rugby.
He said Mopani, by sponsoring two rugby clubs - one in Kitwe and the other on in Mufulira, was leading the way and was also empowering the rugby players by giving them job opportunities.
The event, which had high attendance, was held at Mufurila Rugby Leopard Grounds.
Gen Simkamba said the Jersey for the national team was of high quality and that it would motivate the players to perform better.
And Mopani Copper Mines Chief Operations Officer Deon Van Der Mescht said the mining company would continue associating itself with rugby because it was a major sport in the country.
Van Der Mescht said rugby was a vital sport because it had created many job opportunities both for women and men in the country.
