Truck driver dies in Siavonga

By NATION REPORTER A 52-year-OLD DRIVER of Mazabuka was found dead in the cabin of his refrigerat­ed truck at the main harbour in Siavonga on Thursday.

The driver of Shingalani Transporte­rs of Lusaka, was in Siavonga to load tilapia fish for Yalelo for transporta­tion to the Copperbelt when he met his death.

A police source said they were yet to obtain details of the identity of the driver but hinted that Yalelo were better placed to know as they were the owners of the fish the deceased had gone to pick up from Siavonga.

The source also said that police had launched investigat­ions to establish the cause of death of the driver. The driver may have been murdered as Injuries were found on his body.

Some people spoken to and who identified the deceased, narrated that the driver had said that he wanted to take a nap in the vehicle while Yalelo workers were loading his truck, but that when they went to wake him up after finishing loading, they found him dead.

“The said driver died in his sleep as he was waiting for his truck to be loaded with fish and that his body was taken to Siavonga hospital mortuary while the 30t refrigerat­ed truck loaded with Yalelo Tilapia fish is still parked at the Siavonga harbour,” one source said.
