UPND reveals market plans
UPND copperbelt provincial Chairman Elisha Matambo says when his party forms government, it will relocate the Kitwe Central Police Camp to the Western side of the city to pave way for the construction of the first phase of a modern market.
Mr Matambo said the UPND would relocate the Central Police, leaving only a police post, holding cells and the administrative block.
He said on Yar FM in Kitwe on Tuesday that the relocation would pave way for the construction of the first phase of a modern market.
''We will relocate the central police so that the land will be used to build the first phase of the Chisokone modern market where traders will be moved. Once they have moved from the current market, then thesecond phase of the Chisokone market will be constructed.
''This will ensure no disturbance of business because we realise that markets are the only source of income that our people and therefore expanding in this manner will also help us create more space for thosetrading on the street to also be accommodated,'' Mr Matambo said.
He also said once in government, the UPND would roll out a more progressive programme at the market to protect the interests of marketeers.
And Mr Matambo said the party would soon go for the convention, but would not do so under the instruction of the Patriotic Front.
''We have no business whether PF goes to the convention or not because it does not concern us and we therefore do not expect them have sleepless nights over the UPND convention,'' he said.
