‘Political hypocrisy destroying Zambia’

- By NATION REPORTER

ZAMBIANS must reject politicians who are always swinging the political pendulum, tilting more towards pecuniary interests, says political analyst Patrick Luneta

Mr Luneta said most politicians were driven by decisions that were not anchored on ideologies and values of their political parties.

He told the Daily Nation yesterday that Zambia would have been a better place for all to live in if all politicians, both from the ruling party and the opposition, were driven by the hunger to serve and not to enrich themselves.

Mr. Luneta said most of the politicians in Zambia had little to do with service provision to the electorates, a feat he said had made most of them fail to contribute to the national development agenda.

“The political landscape is marred with insincere individuals. We have a bunch of individuals always swinging the political pendulum and tilting more towards pecuniary interests; the kind that’s not anchored on ideologies and values of a political party,

“Like a boat without an anchor, they easily fall for the sweeping winds from any sort of direction. Just like a leopard can’t change its spots, these cannot do any good when they are accustomed to doing evil,” Mr. Luneta said.

“We now have Christian politicians branding themselves with the garb of sanctity to woo voters, cunningly marketing a “holy” image brand, knowing very well that as Zambians, we sympathise with anything Christianised. I actually admire the guts of politicians,

“They will get their way by hook or crook even if it means trifling sacred things. It is extremely good to have politicians who are Christians but to use the pulpit for personal glory should be loathed,” he said.

He exalted issue-based politics saying it was the only way through which meaningful development could be attained.

“With a population estimated at 15 million it’s uncouth to have recycled public servants and politicians.

Sweet as such offices may be, let ideas be heard too. No one owns the monopoly on knowledge and wisdom,” he said
