UNIP condemns ‘panga for panga’

- By NATION REPORTER

TH ERE is no iv il ar in Zambia where people an use pang as to def end themselves, says 8nited National Independenc e Party 8NIP Southern Province chairperson,

aptain Rob ert Muk eng ami.

Mr Mukengami told the

in /ivingstone that it was sad that the likes of UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and his vice Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba had continued to incite their members to defend themselves when attacked by suspected Patriotic Front (PF) cadres.

&aptain 0ukengami said that with such leaders in the political circles, it would be difficult for the country to curb political violence which he said was on the rise.

+e said that it was difficult to understand how a person who is seeking public office could carelessly incite violence in the country.

³It will be difficult for this nation to contain the escalating political violence which we are witnessing and no matter how much we can condemn it…how can someone who wants to be president incite his followers to use a panga as self-defence,?” he wondered

He cautioned the UPND leadership to avoid issuing inciting statements in the public because it was a recipe for violence especially in areas where there are by-elections.

“If we are not careful, the UPND has the potential to divide this country because of the careless statements which its leaders are issuing to their followers. This country was built on the one Zambia one nation motto which we, as UNIP introduced,” he said.

“Zambians should now begin to screen what kind of leaders are in UPND. These are the same people who should not be given a vote in 2021 because they are violent,” he said.

&aptain 0ukengami has since asked Zambians to reject the UPND ahead of the 2021 general elections which he claimed his party, UNIP would scoop.
