Monze farmers happy with inputs distribution
By NATION REPORTER ARMERS in Monz e av e elc omed Gov ernment’s dec ision to start th e distriution of arming inputs y Septemb er th is year. The move will help farmers to prepare adequately for the 2018/2019 farming season.
Senior Headman Chihato of Chief Ufwenuka’s chiefdom told the that the decision would help to promote agricultural growth as most farmers would have all the inputs before the rains.
Senior Headman Chihato noted that in the past farmers used to receive their inputs as early as August or September, adding that the recent pronouncement by Government to start input distribution was a positive move that all farmers should support.
“If Government has made that decision to start input distribution by September, then that is a very good move because it will allow farmers to adequately prepare for the next farming season,” said Senior Headman Chihato also known as Thaddesu Musute.
³7his move will definitely help to stop perpetual complaints from us farmers on delays by government to distribute inputs,” he added.
Last week the Minister of Agriculture, Michael Katambo, announced plans to start input distribution exercise to all farmers under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) by September this year.
Meanwhile, Senior Headman Chihato has pleaded with government through the Food Reserve Agency to announce the mai]e floor price.
He said it was worrying that up to now the government is yet to announce the price of the staple commodity, adding that this has continued to put farmers at high risk of exploitation by unscrupulous maize buyers each successive harvest season.
