Rev. Banda said there was need for systematic garbage collection adding that this called for heavy investment in skip bins and collection vehicles.

In an interview with the

yesterday, Rev Banda said he took time off his /usaka mayoral campaign and toured some Community Based Enterprise­s (CBEs), engaged by the Lusaka City Council (LCC) to collect garbage from the primary source in the townships and to the Chunga dumping site.

The clergyman said he found tonnes of uncollecte­d garbage and that he was informed on the urgent need for skip bins and garbage trucks.

µµI took time off my campaign schedule to visit some Community-Based Enterprise­s (CBEs) engaged by the Lusaka City Council to collect garbage from the primary source in the townships and to the chunga dumping site.

‘’I found tonnes of uncollecte­d garbage and I was informed that the skip bins and garbage collection vehicles is the major cause,’’ he said.

He said when elected as mayor, he would find a lasting solution to the state of affairs with regards to the management of solid waste in the city.
