Another K50, 000 windfall for Buteko fire victims

-

By NATION REPORTER VICTIMS of the Buteko Market fire in Mufulira yesterday received another hope of revival after Kankoyo Member of Parliament (MP) Brian Mushimba donated K50,000 to help cushion the devastating effect of the inferno which swept through the market last week.

Last week, Kantanshi MP Anthony Mumba set the tone when he donated K50,000 to traders whose goods were destroyed in the inferno that reduced Buteko market to ashes.

Mr Mushimba said despite the market being located in Kantanshi constituency, he had decided to give out some financial assistance because he was a leader in the district and that the market accommodated

from various parts of the district.

Mr Mushimba, who is Communications and Transport Minister, told the Daily Nation that he had deposited the K50,000 in the account which had been opened at ZANACO to help the victims of the Buteko market inferno.

"I have just deposited the K50,000 to go towards helping the victims of the Buteko market inferno where marketeers lost goods. They relied on the little income which they were making from the sale of various goods,” he said.

He said the burning of Buteko market was devastating to the marketeers because it had robbed them of the little income they were making.

Mr Mumba on the other hand has proposed that modern markets should be insured against fire to avoid any losses on the part of government and the marketeers trading in the markets.

The Kantanshi MP said insurance would be the best solution for both the government and the traders.
