INDECO PASSES CLEAN TEST

- By NATION REPORTER NATIONAL

Housing Authority (NHA) has made tremendous strides in improving sanitary conditions and other works at INDECO House, Lusaka City Council (LCC) acting Public Relations Manager, George Sichimba has disclosed.

Last month LCC issued a 7 days ultimatum to NHA to improve sanitary conditions at INDECO House along Lusaka’s Cairo Road, failure to which it would be closed. In an interview with the Daily Nation, Mr Sichimba explained that the local authority was satisfied with the sanitary conditions following an inspection of the building after the expiry of the ultimatum period.

“The inspection was done after the elapse of a seven-day ultimatum and it was found that NHA had made tremendous strides in improving the sanitary conditions and other repair works at INDECO House.

“The last time we did the inspection it was revealed that the building was so filthy it had dirty toilets, blocked sanitary pipes and insufficient supply of water thereby exposing tenants to risks of contracting diseases,” Mr Sichimba said.

He said so far they had seen an improvement in the cleaning up of toilets and the building was also able to provide water storage containers for storing water when there was erratic supply. He said with the new improvement the public health inspectors were satisfied and could not close the building.

Mr Sichimba disclosed that the local authority will continue regular inspections of public buildings to ensure safety and sanitary conditions were adhered to.
