Mafinga buys K650, 000 Tipper truck

-

By NATION REPORTER MAFINGA District Council has bought a Tipper truck at K650, 000 for garbage collection and improvement of feeder roads, district council chairperson Binwell Muwowo has said.

Mr Muwowo told Daily Nation in an interview on Thursday that in addition to the tipper truck, the council also planned to buy a grader to work on feeder roads in the district.

He said the feeder roads were in a deplorable state and that the tipper truck would be used to improve the roads while the grader was being awaited.

“The terrain of Mafinga and state of the roads, it really needs earth moving equipment but as a local authority on our own we budgeted for a tipper for this year and also a grader which we plan to buy as soon as we receive Constituency Development Fund (CDF) of 2018,’’Mr Muwowo Said.

He said purchasing earth moving equipment would also help to improve garbage collection as the local authority did not have any vehicle for garbage collection and disposal, and to improve feeder roads and eventually improve service delivery in general.

And Mr Muwowo also disclosed that the local authority had embarked on the construction of Muzipisi Bridge which connected Mafinga ward to Muzipisi.

“We have also embarked on the construction Muzipizi bridge that connects Muzipizi to Mafinga ward, currently people have to go through Chitipa in neighbouring Malawi to reach Muzipizi ward,’’ Mr Muwowo said

He said the construction of the Muzipiz Bridge by Womba ngulye Contractors at a cost of K486, 000 from CDF, was currently at 80 per cent and work was expected to be completed by the end of August 2018.

Mr Muwowo said there was a risk of being cut off from the rest of the country if Bemba Bridge was not worked on before the onset of the rains.

He also disclosed that the district and traditional leadership were planning to seek audience with President Lungu over the poor state of Isoka – Muyombe road.
