Empower women with health education’

- - ZANIS

WOMEN should be empowered with health education because they are the backbone of the community, Mkushi District Health Promotions Officer, Mercy Chisi has said.

Speaking during a Women’s Clubs empowerment workshop held at DAPP College of Education in Munsakamba area yesterday, Ms Chisi said such meetings like the current one were important and should be taken as a platform to share correct health information with one another.

She said the Ministry of Health would not relent in sharing correct information on health issues with women in the community because they were the ones who cared for their families. Equipping women with correct information and dispelling myths about health issues would result into a better informed future generation as they were the ones who raised children, Ms Chisi said.

“Health is in the hands of people, as Mkushi District Health Office, we are encouraging people to take their health in their own hands through health education and promotion”, she said.

Ms Chisi added that such workshops helped to fulfil government’s transformative agenda on health related issues.

And Munsakamba councillor, Susan Mwelwa said she was happy that women were coming together and empowering each other with knowledge that would better their lives.

Ms Mwelwa described the workshop as a success and encouraged the women to continue working together because by doing so, they would be a force to reckon with.
