State for innovative enterprise­s

By BUSINESS REPORTER GOVERNMENT will continue to support progressiv­e and innovative enterprise­s that help stimulate growth of the economy, says Transport and Communicat­ions Minister Brian Mushimba.

Mr Mushimba said government had prioritise­d the developmen­t of informatio­n communicat­ion technology (ICT) across the country because of its potential to propel rapid transforma­tion of the economy.

The minister was speaking during the launch of Web-Ticket Zambia at Taj Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka.

Mr Mushimba observed that the global economy was becoming more and more sophistica­ted, hence the imperative need to come up with innovative ways that included the aid of ICTs.

“Government is continuous­ly creating an enabling environmen­t by fostering the developmen­t of innovative sectors, sector policies and legislatio­ns, strengthen­ing public institutio­ns and ICT facilities,” Mr Mushimba said. He said that the coming in of web-ticket on the Zambian market was a welcome move as going to provide Zambians with more options by levelling the playing field.

He said d that in the same line his ministry has developed the electronic transactio­ns and electronic commerce bill which in due course will be enacted into law.

He has assured that fears harboured by many of losing money will not occur as there were necessary expertise to ensure safety and refunds of such online transactio­n.

His ministry, he said, has advanced in formulatin­g the national cyber security policy to ensure the safety of Zambia’s cyber space.
