AGRICULTURE A PRIORITY - PS
has made agriculture a priority and the engine for the economic development of the country, Central Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kabwe has said.
Mr Kabwe, was speaking at the expo breakfast meeting at Mkushi Country Club in Mkushi farm bloc on Thursday. He said Government would lay a strong foundation for those who wanted to venture into agriculture as a profitable business venture.
He also said Government would continue to support the private sector in promoting agriculture productivity.
He said the 2017-2021 Seventh National Development Plan (7NDP) was designed to produce tangible social -economic development and that agriculture was among the main focus because it would support sustainable development than mining copper which would eventually be depleted.
“Mkushi farm bloc is one of the contributors to the national food basket and we want Central Province to remain leading in agriculture. Agriculture is the future of the country. As Central province administration, we are responsible and are going to support you by addressing some of your concerns," Mr Kabwe said.
Speaking earlier, Mkushi District Commissioner Luka Mwamba said the meeting was vital because it brought Government and farmers together for agriculture promotion.
Mr Mwamba said the event was also meant to address challenges farmers were facing and to fund raise for the Central province expo slated for October 2018.
