Kitwe road works awaits alternative routes

- By NATION REPORTER

THE road rehabilitation in the Central Business District (CBD) in Kitwe is expected to start in the next two weeks after the council and bus drivers agree on the alternative route for use during rehabilitation works, Mayor Christopher Kang'ombe has said. Mr Kang'ombe said the council had proposed that bus drivers at Oxford Bus Station should use the alternative route near the Zambia Railways Station, but a firm decision would be reached after meeting the bus drivers. He said in an interview that bus drivers would continue to operate from Oxford Bus station, but the issue which needed to be resolved was the alternative route to use to and from the station. He said AVIC International was set to commence road rehabilitation in the CBD, but was waiting for council to establish alternative routes for motorists during the exercise. "AVIC International is set to start road rehabilitation works in the CBD, but we have a challenge with Oxford Avenue because we need to find an alternative route for buses loading from Oxford Bus station. So we will be meeting bus drivers to discuss the alternative route," Mr Kang'ombe said Mr Kang'ombe said the rehabilitation of Kingstone, Langashe, Chisokone, Matuka and Oxford roads in the CBD was likely to cause congestion. He said the roads in the CBD would be done under the Zambia Town Roads in which 56 kilometres of roads would be done.
