Expedite Blue Band margarine probe

- By NATION REPORTER

THE test results for Blue Band margarine spread for bread are taking too long to be released for customers to know if the product is fit for human consumption or not, Africa Consumer Union, first vice president, Muyunda Ililonga has said.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, Mr Ililonga, said the union was concerned with potential health risks posed by consuming Blue Band product which failed to melt even when subjected to high temperatures.

He said this was why he was calling upon the relevant testing authorities to treat the matter with a sense of agency because it involved the health of consumers.

“As African Consumer Union we are concerned with the potential risks involved in eating the product which does not even melt once subjected to hot temperatures. “We want to ensure that they do the tests and release the results quickly so that consumers’ fears of the product can be put to rest,” Mr Ililonga said.

He said it was sad that the results were taking too long especially that the product was still on the market.

Mr Ililonga said in the event that the results came out negative a so much damage would have already been done to the consumers.

Mr Ililonga said the tests should be expedited because people wanted to know the outcome of the tests.
