Parklands residents petition DC over night club noise

- By NATION REPORTER

RESIDENTS and business owners in Parklands in Kitwe have petitioned District Commissioner (DC) Binwell Mpundu to deal with Ebony Night Club over noise pollution, particularly during the night.

They complained that music is played loudly from Thursday throughout the weekend during the night when they were expected to rest and enjoy peaceful sleep.

Petitioners have demanded that Ebony Night Club management be ordered to stop playing music in a manner that was inimical and disturbing to residents and patrons in nearby lodges and a hotel.

According to one of the petitioners, Richard Kavwanda of Shebourne Hotel, there was persistent disturbance and noise from Ebony Club and Restaurant on Kanyanta Avenue.

‘’I would like to bring to your attention the matter of noise pollution from Ebony Club. There has been persistent noise and disturbance from the club and restaurant opposite our Shebourne Hotel.

‘’On a weekly basis starting Thursday all though the weekends from 21.00hours until early hours, Ebony plays very loud music and their patrons are fond of trespassing on our property.

“We frequently host high profile people of society who particularly choose to stay with Shebourne Hotel for the privacy , security and peace we have been known to offer over years, but with the opening of Ebony all that has been compromised,’’ Mr Kavwanda said.

Mr Kavwanda said the sad development had potential to scare away clients and such was likely to have a negative impact on the business.

“Due to noise some of our clients have been shunning our hotel. On Friday, the 23rd of March 2018, an incident occurred where a player of the Zambia National Football Team was manhandled by patrons from Ebony Club and Restaurant,” he said in an apparent reference to Chisamba Lungu.
