Bushiri to support Zambian schools

By NATION REPORTER SOUTH AFRICAN-based prophet, Shepherd Bushiri has announced his intention to help selected community schools in Zambia, beginning with Lukomano Community School in Mazabuka.

Prophet Bushiri’s communicat­ions director, Ephraim Nyondo said in an interview that they were already working with Mr Hammes Kanondo, the manager for Lukomano Community School.

Mr Nyondo said the prophet would be helping the school on a regular basis depending on its needs.

He said helping Lukomano Community School and many others for the underprivi­leged in different countries was only phase one of the programme.

When asked whether the gesture would extended to other schools, in Zambia, Mr Nyondo admitted emphasisin­g that this was just the first phase.

Mr Nyondo explained that Prophet Bushiri and his team were taking a holistic approach that was generally aimed at improving good learning in line with the sustainabl­e developmen­t goals.

“We are working with Mr Hammes Kanondo from Mazabuka He runs Lukomano Community School. There are 55 children at the school and three classes namely middle class, reception class and Grade 1.

“It’s mostly run by volunteer teachers. So the school will be providing us with areas they need help and we will be assisting regularly,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Nyondo also announced that the prophet on Wednesday donated items worth US$ 40,000 to Kloofwater­s Primary School in Rusternbur­g, South Africa as part of commemorat­ing Mandela Day in honour of the global icon Nelson Mandela. He said that the prophet also made a giant step in supporting global efforts by launching an Africa-wide School Adoption Programme, which would see Zambia benefittin­g.

Mr Nyondo explained that the programme would adopt struggling schools and meet their every emerging needs to facilitate delivery of quality education.

Minister of National Guidance and Religious Affairs Godfridah Sumaili said she could not comment because she had not been furnished with details on the matter.

In May this year the government barred the prophet who has also been stopped from visiting other African countries.
