UPND face resistance in Kangwena

-

DESPITE claims that Mushindamo as a whole is their stronghold, the United Party for National Development (UPND) is faced with resistance in the Kangwena local government by-election.

Meanwhile, Solwezi East Member of Parliament Leaky Kintu has been dropped as campaign manager and replaced with Solwezi Central MP, Stafford Mulusa.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, PF campaign manager Martin Mbaya disclosed that yesterday the UPND campaign team tried to hold public rallies but all flopped.

+e explained that the first meeting which was addressed by Mushindamo district council chairman Lackson Mulumbi and Mr Mulusa in Mupitanshi area was attended by a small crowd of mainly children.

He said later in the day, the campaign team went to Mishingwa area East of Kangwena passing through Kangwena central but even this did not turn out well.

’However, on their way as they tried to pass through Kangwena central with a convoy of four vehicles, they were booed by people,’’ Mr Mbaya said.

He said their efforts were in vain as people were busy going about their own businesses.

And in Mishingwa area, the UPND campaign team still met another resistance as people did not turn up for their meetings,’’ he added.

He disclosed that the UPND have since deployed more MPs from various constituencies to beef up their campaigns ahead of Thursdays polls.

He however said though the opposition have deployed more MPs, the PF would take the day.

He said people in the area have realised that the opposition have nothing to offer them in terms of development.

We are very focused and our campaigns are issue based.

Steven Kasono is the PF candidate while the opposition UPND have featured Rabson Laishi.
