2 die in road traffic accident

TWO people have died in a roag traffic accigent in Livingston­e while four others are nursing inj uries in the Livingston­e Central Hospital.

Southern Province Commission­er of Police Bonny Kapeso confirmed the accident to the Daily Nation in a statement.

Mr. Kapeso said the driver lost control of his vehicle due to speeding before flipping over.

The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon on the Livingston­e- Kazungula Road near Kamatanda.

He said that according to the findings by his officers who rushed to the scene of the accident, the vehicle was overloaded with six passengers instead of the recommende­d four.

Mr Kapeso said that two passengers died on the spot while the other passengers were rushed to the Livingston­e Central Hospital where they were receiving treatment.

He said the accident involved a Toyota Corolla registrati­on number AJB 8775 which was being driven by Mabvuto Zulu, 42 of C381 of Morolight township of Livingston­e.

Meanwhile, police in Livingston­e have recorded two cases of suspected murder and suicide which occurred between July 21 and July 22.

Mr. Kapeso said Inonge Mabosha of house number C193 Linda Compound reported that her relative Patrick Mbaimbai aged 23 years had hanged himself in his bedroom.

³2fficers at /inda police station visited the scene and found the body of Mbaimbai hanging from the roof,

“They also discovered a body of a 16-year old girl of house no. N 55 Linda compound wrapped in the bed sheets in the same bedroom where Mbaimbai hanged himself.

The victim was suspected to have been a girl friend of Mbaimbai.

Police suspected that the young woman was murdered by Mbaimbai who later took his own life.
