Women’s club seeks financial help

- By NATION REPORTER

MWEMBESHI Women’s Club in Chisamba has appealed for financial assistance to enable it start an aquaculture project.

Club chairperson Dorothy Mutibili, who made the appeal, said the club had already dug a fish pond which was given to the women’s organisation by a village headman.

Speaking in an interview yesterday, Ms Mutibili said the club needed fingerlings and plastics for the pond to start the fish farming project.

“We have already made a fish pond but we don’t have plastics to put in the pond and fish to start the fish farming,” Ms Mutibili said.

The women also appealed for help to drill a borehole to have enough water to enable them grow their vegetable farming.

Ms Mutibili said with the borehole in place, the club, which was already growing vegetables and tomatoes, would increase its financial base and empower members.

She said the club was also making tomato sauce which was being supplied to a company in Chibombo.

“If we are empowered with a borehole, we would grow as a club because we would be able to grow vegetables at a larger scale,” she said.

The club has ventured into a number of activities as a source of livelihood for its members, among them vegetable farming, chicken rearing and village banking.
