4 Zambian students get UoA scholarships
FOUR Zambian students have been awarded scholarships by the University of Africa to pursue masters degrees with the institution.
The four were awarded the inaugural chancellor’s scholarships because they had demonstrated ability to advance sustainable development, according to the university.
UoA Chancellor Ruth Mubanga said the scholarships were estimated at more than K100,000.
“These are individuals with a strong focus of empowering themselves and their communities, a quality well-synched with our philosophy of empowerment through education,” she said.
Dr Mubanga said various disciplines, chosen by the recipients of the scholarships aimed at nurturing leadership potential, intersected with outcomes for sustainable development.
The recipients of the awards are Janet Mvula, a former district commissioner and nurse who served in Mozambique at the height of skirmishes of the liberation struggle for Southern Africa.
Ms Mvula who is currently director of education and health services in Lundazi, wishes to pursue a master’s in public administration.
Others are Rabecca Lilanda who lives in Mkushi, and is involved in advocating child literacy. She will study masters in literacy and development studies.
Mr Stephen Victor of Ndola who is involved in coordinating youth financial empowerment, wants to pursue masters in business administration and Lillian Mundia of Lusaka who wishes to pursue a masters in early childhood education.
Ms Mundia volunteers her time in various community projects such as feeding orphans and counselling vulnerable women.
