Why people should vote for Miles Sampa

THE people of Lusaka will tomorrow elect the Executive Mayor in the by-election.

The by-election was caused by the death of Lusaka Mayor Wilson Chisala Kalumba in May this year.

The by-election is being contested by nine candidates from various political parties.

These include United Party for National Development (UPND), National Democratic Congress (NDC) among others.

However, it is one thing to participate in an election and another to win that election thereby assuming leadership. Hence, the need to scrutinize the candidates and vote wisely.

Among the candidates participating in the mayoral by-election, I feel Mr. Miles Sampa the Patriotic Front candidate is the best to win the election.

Of course some people might argue that Mr. Sampa cannot win the election. That is their opinion which should be respected.

The crux of the matter is that Mr. Sampa should be voted for. Ultimately, he will emerge victorious.

The PF mayoral candidate is poised for victory because of the following reasons:

(a) He is a seasoned politician who served in the PF government and he held the positions of Deputy Minister of Finance and Deputy Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry. Furthermore, understands how the government system operates.

(b) He is the former MP for Matero constituency and he initiated and implemented a number of developmental projects which everyone is able to see.

(c) Whilst serving as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Matero, he was identified as one of the hard working lawmakers in the country.

(d) He has support from the grass root which position him well to garner the highest number of votes on the polling day.

His support from the grass root is as a result of his interaction with everyone in society regardless of one's status.

(e) He is educated with a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture Economics and a Master’s degree

in Business Administration besides other qualifications.

(f) He is a seasoned banker who worked in the industry spanning more than two decades.

In his professional career as a banker, he worked for Barclays Bank Plc and Finance Bank. This entails that he has vast experience in the corporate world.

(g) He is action-oriented as he walks the talk by implementing whatever he plans. He has already come up with a road map on how he is going to develop Lusaka city.

(h) He is a saleable candidate because he has a proven track record of hard work and serving the people diligently.

Therefore, Mr. Sampa stands out amongst the candidates and deserves to win the mayoral race.

In conclusion, let me hasten to mention here that there are some candidates contesting the mayoral by-election but, Mr. Sampa is the best candidate and he deserves to win.

I implore the electorate to vote for the PF candidate, the tested and tried leader for a better Lusaka city.

The point worth noting is that the position for an executive mayor is very involving and there is no need to experiment with leadership.

It is a wise decision to vote for the tried and tested leader who is no other than Mr. Sampa.

All said and done, Mr. Sampa is miles ahead of other candidates to scoop the mayoral seat. ELEMIYA PHIRI, Lusaka-based political analyst.
