‘HANDS OFF CHITIMUKULU’

- By CHITE MTONGA

STOP intimidating Paramount Chief Chitimukulu, says New Congress Party president, Peter Chanda. Mr Chanda said in an interview that he had received reports from Kasama that a radio station where the paramount chief was frequently hosted was stoned by unidentified people. He said the UPND had hoped that former Defence Minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba would get open support from the Chitimukulu after he resigned from the PF government and joined the UPND but the chief had remained nonpartisan and objective and this had annoyed some UPND sympathisers.

“I wish to warn the UPND against intimidating Paramount Chief Chitimukulu, who has always been a source of wisdom and counsel. The chief is known for his writings and frequent visits to media houses to sell his ideas and he has never been inclined to

any political party,” Mr Chanda said.

He said Chitimukulu started giving counsel to Government and Zambians before he became a chief and should not be subjected to ridicule because he did what he thought was best for Zambia.

Reacting to the recent revelations that there was an opposition political party that intended to overthrow the Chitimukulu once it ascends to power in 2021, Mr Chanda said there was no need for an opposition political party to harbour such hatred towards a traditional leader.

Mr Chanda said traditional leaders were expected to support the government of the day.

He said it was however impossible for the alleged political party to win the 2021 elections as the people of Zambia were still in love with the Patriotic Front.

“Whichever political party the chief was referring to is just dreaming, the PF will still win the 2021 elections and that is why us in the NCP have decided to wait until the people of Zambia are ready for change,” Mr Chanda said.
