Zambia to have K110bn building materials plant
AN INVESTMENT of K110 billion has been injected in Zambia by Builders Warehouse, a company specialised in building materials.
Company chief executive officer, Luewellyn Walters, said the investment would create over 270 jobs for Zambians.
Mr Walters said 17 percent of the warehouse stock would be sourced from the local suppliers in an endeavour to support the local economy.
He said this during the official opening of the Makeni Builders Warehouse in Lusaka this week.
“Our company stands for respect for consumers. We will also continue to support the local community by adopting schools as part of our corporate social responsibility,” he said.
Speaking at the same function, Commerce minister Christopher Yaluma, said Government was committed to the private sector partnership as it was key to national development.
Mr Yaluma said that Government was ready to support the private sector through the implementation of policies aimed at creating a conducive business environment for businesses to thrive and make Zambia a preferred investment destination in the region.
“Government expects to see a vibrant private sector that is taking advantage of the good policies being provided to grow their businesses and widen employment opportunities for the ordinary citizens.”, he said.
Mr Yaluma further said the investment had pleased Government because apart from creating jobs, it was also going to contribute to the national development agenda.
