Govt owes Mulonga K40m in water bills
By NATION REPORTER MULONGA Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) says Government departments and institutions owe it K40 million in unpaid water bills.
Government departments in Chingola, Chililabombwe and Mufulira had outstanding bills totalling K40 million.
MWSC commercial manager Donald Lusambo said despite the Government being a good client, the amount it owed the institution was huge.
Mr Lusambo said the Government and the water utility company were partners and that a workable plan would have to be made to settle the bill for the company to continue operating effectively.
He said this in Chingola during the Zambia Water and Sanitation Project (ZWSP) media training programme organized by Mulonga.
The training programme had attracted Copperbelt-based Journalists and other media practitioners from both private and public institutions.
Mr Lusambo said although the Government owed the institution a huge amount, the water utility firm has not disconnected the water supply to the affected Government departments in all the three mining towns.
Mr Lusambo has meanwhile advised both commercial and domestic customers to pay their water bills on time for the company to provide quality services.
At the same function, MWSC director of technical of services Reuben Kaira has urged the public to be on the look-out for unscrupulous people uprooting the water pipes and other facilities.
Mr Kaira said it was sad that some people were frustrating Mulonga’s effort to supply quality water as they were stealing pipes and other installations.
He said the company would always protect the whistle blowers while a token of appreciation would be extended to them.
