LAND SALES SCAM ROCKS CHINGOLA MUNICIPALITY

-

KINDLY allow me to say something in your balanced newspaper regarding land issues in Chingola.

Currently, there are serious dubious land sales at Chingola Municipal Council never witnessed in the past.

These sales are being undertaken by both councillors and the technocrats at the municipality.

Some council management officials have connived with councillors to illegally sell land with unbelievable impunity.

All this is happening while the Mayor and Town Clerk are watching on with folded arms and for reasons only best known to themselves.

Could it be one of the reasons the 7own Clerk is rarely in office to attend to the many issues affecting the municipality?

There is a piece of land in Lulamba Ward which was recently sold by these people where an official was given a cool K , to expedite the dubious sale and keep his mouth shut.

This is the land that was earmarked for a filling station.

The same councillors have invaded a titled land belonging to a named company which were demarcated into several plots and sold to the highest bidders.

Can the Ministry of Local Government intervene and bring sanity to our municipality because these people are speedily grabbing people’s land with incredible ease.

They have now targeted land earmarked for the construction of council offices, parks and gardens, police post and shopping mall in Chingola South.

As if that is not bad enough, the approved regularisation programme for all squatters to enable them receive social amenities like water and electricity has been stopped.

Some senior council management officials and councillors have managed to buy themselves and their spouses expensive vehicles from these dubious land sales.

Can government please quickly move in and bring sanity to this town?

FRANK MWAMBA, Chingola.
