CHIWALA TECHNICAL SCHOOL SEEKS K5M
CHIWALA Boys Technical Secondary School in Masaiti requires K5 million to refurbish infrastructure and improve the learning environment, says Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Bright Nundwe.
Mr Nundwe said Chiwala, which was opened in 1963 needed a facelift to bring it to acceptable standards.
He said this after touring the institution.
He said the situation at the school had affected the enrolment rate of learners which had dropped to 700 pupils from over 2000 in the last few years.
Mr Nundwe said Chiwala Boys Technical School was a pride of the Copperbelt as it was the only boys’ technical school and required immediate attention.
He pledged that Government would pay attention and improve infrastructure at the institution to promote and provide quality
education.
“It is surprising that a school can be in such a state of disrepair despite being in the midst of reputable companies like Lafarge, Zambezi Portland Cement and Neelkanth companies,” he wondered. Mr Nundwe said his office would engage the companies to ensure that the learning environment was improved.
He also assured the teachers and the learners that the government would support the remoulding and reconstruction of infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Chiwala headteacher Chipasha Chileshe said the school administration had been mobilising resources and had started the rehabilitation of the dining hall and some dormitories.
