‘Opposition will continue on losing streak’

-

By NATION REPORTER OPPOSITION political parties will continue to lose ground on the political landscape because their messages are laced with insults and malice, a former diplomat has said.

Former Deputy High Commissioner to Namibia Dorothy Nachilongo said in Ndola that opposition political parties had lost their relevance because of the wrong political strategy of vilifying Patriotic Front (PF) leaders.

“They have themselves to blame because they can’t point out wrongs, but are engaged in insults all the time. Everyday it’s insults.

That’s not what the people want to hear. It’s a wrong strategy and they will continue losing,” she said in an interview.

She observed that the PF would continue gaining popularity because of many reasons, among them the construction of roads, schools, hospitals and generally social infrastructure.

“They are working. Infrastructure development is everywhere and the citizens are able to see. They are working and that’s their message while the opposition leaders continue insults,” she said.

Ms Nachilongo urged new Lusaka Mayor Miles Sampa and other candidates that emerged victorious to concentrate on serving the people.

She said new leaders should not get over-excited as the electorate was highly expectant of continued development

“They should humble themselves. There is no time to celebrate. Infrastructure development should continue while new leaders should also continue listening to the people,” she said.

He said the citizens were interested in politics of development, hence it would be counterproductive for any politician to start punching holes in whatever the PF was doing.

Ms Nachilongo said even advanced democracies elsewhere thrived because of politics based on development and care for the citizens. SESTUZ says teachers must not bring shame onthe profession through misconduct
