Girl education vital for rural areas - DC

-

GIRL education in rural areas is cardinal if communities want to see meaningful development in their areas, Pemba District Commissioner Reginald Mugoba has said.

Mr Mugoba said educated Girl education cardinal for meaningful development children, even in the rural areas, had potential to break the poverty cycle in their families once they had a stable source of income.

Mr Mugoba was speaking at Muntuwabulongo Primary School in Chief Moyo’s area where he addressed community members from 11 villages.

The meeting was called to sensitise community members on various programmes Government was implementing through line ministries in the district.

“I’am aware that the school is currently facing accommodation challenges, hence it has few teachers, and now how do you expect pupils to pass if they don’t have teachers to teach them?” he lamented.

He said President Lungu was very passionate about the education sector and urged the community to attach value to the education of their children.

Among the government’s programmes on which the community was sensitised were social cash transfer under the Social Welfare Department, women empowerment by Department of Community Development and the Fertiliser Input under the Department of Agriculture.

In moving a vote of thanks, headman Muntu Wabulongo commended the DC and his team for the valuable information they shared with the community.
