Attacks on ECZ, Judiciary slammed

- By NATION REPORTER

WE condemn the deliberate and well-orchestrated attempt to compromise the credibility of elections in Zambia through attacks against institutions of governance, the Zambian DNA has said.

Zambian DNA spokesperson Spuki Mulemwa yesterday said his organisation had noted, how some disgruntled CSOs had been taking turns to demonise some institutions of governance and demanded an end to this.

He said it was important for the CSOs to take deep introspection and check if what they were doing still resonated with their mandate and change if the contrary was true.

He said for some time now, the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), the police, and the Judiciary had been at the centre of public ridicule and media attacks.

“The CSOs have attacked the ECZ, the Zambia Police, and the governing Patriotic Front, purporting that the said institutions have been colluding with PF in elections.

“However, the PF is popular on the ground due to the development agenda taking place in all the 10 provinces.

“This explains why the ruling party had been winning and will continue winning elections in Zambia, and not through vote buying as alleged by the said CSOs who are known to be ardent critics of the government,” Mr. Mulemwa said.

He said his organisation was aware that the CSOs criticised Government on anything and everything that it did and that calls for Police Inspector General, Kakoma Kanganja to step down were misplaced.

“We advise the said consortium of CSOs to be sober when dealing with national issues and not push selfish political agenda meant to derail the good governance of this country. We urge the Zambian people not to entertain them,” he said.
