MKUSHI COUNCIL ELIMINATES STREET VENDING

MKUSHI council has brought street vending under control by keeping vendors away in the central business district.

Mkushi District Council chairman (vans %walya confirmed the developmen­t in an interview.

Mr. %walya said the &ouncil was doing its¶ best to ensure that street vending is stopped in the central business district and on other streets in the area.

+e said the local authority was constantly checking and monitoring to ensure that there was no one breaking the law on vending.

+e said vendors were sensitised and allocated trading places to conduct their businesses from but some were getting back to the streets.

³ , think on street vending we are doing our best as Mkushi 7own &ouncil. , cannot compare to other towns, but we are doing our best,” Mr. %walya said.

Mr %walya appealed to street vendors to conduct their businesses from the allocated places and not on the streets.

+e urged all vendors to operate from designated trading centres and compete for the buyers as opposed to going back on the streets.

Meanwhile, Mkushi 'istrict &ommissione­r Luka Mwamba has expressed satisfacti­on with the working culture of civil servants in the district.

,n an interview, Mr. Mwamba said he was happy that many civil servants were working according to the civil service code of con- duct.

Mr. Mwamba said he has been providing checsk and balances to ensure that they adhere to rules and regulation­s.

³, am happy that most civil servants in the district report for work early,” Mr Mwamba said.

+e said he has been conducting spot checks in various department­s to ensure civil servants serve people in need of service.

Mr. Mwamba reminded civil servants in the area that the Patriotic )ront government was pro poor and they should work to serve the poor.

And Mr. Mwamba said he was happy the way the security wings were operating in the district.

+e said their commitment to duty was commendabl­e.
