Compensation Board drops case against Daily Nation
THE Workers Compensation Fund Control Board yesterday withdrew charges that were instituted against the Daily Nation Newspaper Limited for allegedly failing to declare ZRUNeUs¶ eaUninJs IRU tKe financial year 2018/ 2019.
It was established that Daily Nation was compliant as it had filed in its workers¶ assessments on July 11, 2018, thereafter the matter was withdrawn, and the magistrate discharged the newspaper.
7he %oard had filed a complaint in the Magistrates Court and summons were issued against the newspaper on July 16, 2018,only to discover that the paper was compliant and apSroSriate SaSers filed
The Nation Represented by lawyers Makebi Zulu Advocates appeared before Magistrate Nthandose Chabala where the matter came for hearing.
Prosecutors for the board made an application for the matter to be withdrawn.
This is in a case where the newspaper faced one count of failing to declare workers’ earninJs for the financial \ear 2018/2019 and subseque ntly pay assessments to the Workers Compensation Fund Board in respect of the eligible employees contrary to section 138 (1) (4) and 112 (7) as read with section 151 of the Workers Compensation Act No.10 of 19 of the laws of Zambia.
The court granted the application, Daily Nation was discharged.
