UPND heading into oblivion
…its downward trend in election defeats is irreversible - Lifwekelo
THE downward trend by United Party for National Development (UPND) will culminate into a total collapse of the opposition party after the 2021 general election, the party’s’ former deputy presidential spokesperson Edwin Lifwekelo said yesterday.
Mr Lifwekelo said recent election losses by the UPND even in areas previously considered its fortresses, was a clear indication of the inevitable and impending demise of the opposition party.
He said the stunning election defeats were the writings on the wall for UPND leaders that the end was fast approaching and that the 2021 election would put the final nail on the party’s coffin.
The belief by some UPND officials that more than 95 percent of the defeats in recent election defeats due to malpractices was just an illusion because the truth was that the party had already lost it all, he said.
Mr Lifwekelo said in an interview that UPND should not cheat itself that it was still popular as the downward trend in its performance was evidence that its slide into oblivion was irreversible.
He said the recent losses during by-elections were not ordinary as suggested by some UPND leaders as the party in the past scooped a considerable number of seats in by-elections.
“It is not true that the UPND is growing, the party is losing the popularity it once enjoyed, and this is because of the leader’s loss of direction, I was part of the UPND and to tell you the truth the party is dying. They have failed to offer solutions but have resorted to holding personal vendettas against individuals and people are watching,” Mr Lifwekelo said.
Mr Lifwekelo said the UPND defeats in the recent by-elections were nothing compared to the obliteration the party should prepare for in 2021.
He said the defections of UPND members to the PF were because the top leadership was selfish and most members had realised that the current leaders could not win the 2021 general elections.
Mr Lifwekelo said unless there was a revolution to change the leadership and the kind of politics it was practicing, the party would be non-existent after the defeat in the 2021 general elections.
He said UPND president Hakainde Hichilema, due to his greed and selfishness, had destroyed the party which was once at the brink of forming government under its late leader Mr Anderson Mazoka.
