HH CHALLENGERS ADMONISHED
… three party officials vying for presidency suppressed By NATION REPORTER
THREE UPND officials who expressed interest to challenge Hakainde Hichilema for presidency during the party’s convention have been admonished.
Former UPND presidential spokesperson, Edward Mumbi said he was privy to information that the party had admonished the three officials who intended to challenge Mr Hichilema.
“When Mr Hichilema heard that 3 members are planning to challenge him for the presidency at the convention, he is now dillydallying. The party has now reached its downfall, that’s why people are not voting for them in elections,” he said.
Mr Mumbi said as long as Mr Hichilema remained in power, the UPND was going nowhere.
And Patriotic Front Kabushi Member of Parliament, Bowman Lusambo also said UPND was now lifeless.
Mr Lusambo reiterated that UPND needed new blood at the top for it to be relevant again.
He observed that Mr Hichilema had wrong advisors and warned that as long as he and the current leadership remained in office, the UPND would remain a dead log.
Mr Lusambo however emphasised that the government needed a vibrant opposition party which could offer constructive checks and balances. PF Mandevu constituency secretary, Lemmy Bwalya said that the UPND was now a misplaced and non-existent entity with no direction.
Mr Bwalya reiterated that claims by the opposition party that it had lost the elections because of voter apathy lacked maturity and understanding of democratic tenets.
And 3rd Liberation Movement president Enock Tonga wondered why Mr Hichilema was holding on to power when it was clear people did not want him.
