Fake pastors should be exposed

- SITH MWAMBA, Kasama.

Dear Editor,

I WISH to comment on the revelation by Southern Province Minister Edify Hamukale that fake pastors are demanding sex from women in exchange for “miracles.”

The issue of bogus pastors has been around for many centuries. Even our Lord Jesus Christ said many will come in His name when in fact they are just crooks.

But now because amassing wealth has become number one priority in society, the situation of fake pastors has worsened. Many so-called pastors are in for business.

Pastoring has become one of the highest paying jobs nowadays.

In some churches they fight in some cases even eliminate each other allegedly through witchcraft, for positions because of the benefits tied to particular positions.

Even the preaching in such churches is tilted towards finances. The flock is endlessly bombarded with messages of how the Almighty God loves a cheerful giver. Indeed, God loves a cheerful giver but what is not of God is the motive behind such messages.

Some few years back, I was watching television showing members of a certain church giving or donating money with other congregants watching, as was the practice. I do not know whether the practice is still going on because I do not watch that TV channel.

However, what I found strange was that if a church member donated like K10, the church leaders who were standing near where the money was being dropped as if to welcome the donations, would cheer and clap in somewhat normal way to thank the member for the donation.

But if another member donated K100, the leaders went wild to thank the giver, clearly belittling the one who gave less.

In God’s eyes, even those who donate less if that is what they can afford and they do it cheerfully, they are doing what is expected of them and God would love them.

Those who give more have the resources to do so but that should not belittle the small giver if that is what they can afford and they do cheerfully.

But all this only shows that some churches actually worship money and not God. They use the name of God as a channel to acquire wealth.

This is why we now have millionaire pastors owning a fleet of expensive limousines, some even have private jets and mansions and move with bodyguards yet most of their flock is wallowing in poverty.

We should not fall prey to these fake pastors, they must be exposed.
