Can LWSC explain water shortages in Lusaka?

- BERNARD MNG’ONG’O, Lusaka.

Dear Editor, THROUGH your paper, allow me to make an earnest appeal to Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) to up its operations and ensure that there is water in most parts of Lusaka which have suddenly gone dry.

I live in Matero and I have not seen a drop of water from the taps for the past three days without any explanation from the LWSC.

I am sure the situation is the same in other parts of Lusaka.

I do not know if these people at LWSC really understand that water is life because how else can they allow a situation where there is completely no water for three days?

For me, I think it all goes to planning. LWSC does not seem to plan before they embark on their endless major repairs works.

It should have a standby facil- ity which will ensure that people have water almost every day while it is carrying out major repairs to its system.

But to completely shut down like it has done, I think it is not only unfair but demonstrates bad management at the water utility company.

Women and children are now forced to travel long distances to the few points where the commodity is available, including shallow wells.

7hose with Àushing toilets are going through the worst experience in the absence of water.

I do not know what the situation will be like in the coming dry months, but Lusaka residents should brace for worse times.

May be we should appeal to President Edgar Lungu to step in because it seems that is the only time when our parastatals wake up and begin to deliver.
