‘Teachers housed in Unfinished Dormitory

- By JACKSON MAPAPAYI LAMBA

Secondary School in Mushindamo is facing serious shortage of staff accommodation forcing the school administration to accommodate some teachers in an unfinished dormitory.

This came to light when Mushindamo District Commissioner Emmanuel Chihili visited the school to appreciate the challenges encountering the school.

School head teach Evans Sebente told Mr Chihili that the school had only nine staff houses against 24 members of staff.

He said initially, the school was supposed to have 29 members of staff but due to inadequate accommodation, other teachers had not reported to the institution.

"Even the same dormitory where some teachers have been accommodated, it is not fully completed though works are at 90 percent. So, it is a very big challenge for us," Mr Sebente said.

He appealed to relevant authorities to help the school mitigate accommodation challenges.

He, however, disclosed that the school management working in collaboration of with the Parent's Teachers Association, had embarked on the construction of a [ semi detached Àat in a bid to address the housing shortage..

+e said worNs on the Àat was at roof level and it would be completed soon.

"So, we are hoping that once we complete these Àats, at least it will lessen the accommodation challenge," he said.

And Mr Chihili assured the school head teacher of government's intervention.

+e said his office was worNing round the clock to ensure that such challenges were addressed in the district.

He said government attached great importance to the welfare of civil servants.

"This challenge is not just here but even at other institutions. But I can assure you that it will be a thing of the past," he said.
