THREE NABBED IN RITUAL ATTACK

- By NATION REPORTER

people have been arrested by police in Mansa in connection with the suspected ritual attacks on a 30 year old man of Chief Mwenda's area in Mwense whose manhood was almost chopped off.

Luapula Province police commissioner, Elias Chushi who confirmed the arrest, said that one of the suspects, a juvenile was the nephew of the victim, James Mubanga.

The arrest was made after the police command in the province took over the matter following bitter complaints by the victim that the police in Chipili had failed to arrest the perpetrators who had been identified.

Mr Chushi said that he was prompted to go and look for Mr Mubanga after learning of his officers’ alleged incompetence and managed to follow up the matter until the suspects were nabbed.

He said that the suspects would be charged with unlawful wounding or attempted murder and were expected to appear in court soon.

He said that the juvenile nephew was picked up from Chief Mwenda's area while the other two were from Chembe.

Mr Chushi called on the general public to report police officers who were failing or neglecting to carry out their duties to respective provincial police chiefs.

He observed that in as much as officers in charge in the proYince reported to him on a daily basis, some officers in far Àung areas could misbehave.

And sources told the Daily

Nation that a local businessman had feted the officers after the investigations started.

“A cow was slaughtered and officers giYen meat and inYestigations in the matter just died after that,” the source said.

Narrating his ordeal, Mr Mubanga said that on July 9, 2018 as he was returning home from his errands, three people believed to have been trailing him attacked him at the junction of the Luwingu- Kawambwa Road in Mubanga area and descended on him.

He explained that the trio hit him with bricks on the head before dragging him into the drainage where they started cutting his manhood but that he was only saved by a good Samaritan who appeared on the scene and repelled them.
