Earth tremor shakes Kabwe

- By NATION REPORTER

KABWE yesterday experienced an earth tremor which occurred around 04:35 and lasted for about 30 seconds and sent some residents into a panic.

Those talked to in separate interviews described the experience in defferent ways with some saying they thought the world had finally come to an end.

Ms Beauty Chilembo said the earth tremor experience made her think that her house was being attacked by evil forces.

Ms Chilembo said she then screamed on top of her voice ‘fire, fire in Jesus' name’. “When I felt my house shaking, accompanied by some noise, I thought it was witchcraft so I screamed ‘fire, fire in Jesus' name’, but after a while, I realized it was something else not witchcraft,” said Ms Chilembo.

Ms Agnes Banda feared that it was the coming of the Lord who she claimed would come like thief in the night. “I then said Lord what is this? I have not even confessed my sins to you yet you are already here,” said Ms Banda.

And Agnes Ngoma said she had experienced earth tremors before but that one was different because it was not only loud and shaky but windy too. “I was very sure a witch had fallen on the roof of my house but I was scared to go out to confirm my fears because I have never seen a witch fall before,” said Ms Ngoma. There has been a growing frequency of earth tremors of comparable magnitude in Zambia of late.
